Thanks to a good friend and fellow Realtor, Heather Hughes Layne, for shedding light on this potential change to our Farmers Market....
"For everyone concerned about the State Farmer’s Market after reading the petition that has been circulated, please know that they (the growers who started the petition) are painting a very skewed picture of what is in planning. The market is not going away. The wholesale building would be replaced by retail, and that is what the growers are upset about. If you look at the plan, it includes a RENOVATED produce market, new shopping and dining options, and yes some housing. In my opinion, a plan like this would be a fantastic economic boon for this area, and it seems that planners are trying to conserve the farm aspect. The market would be more of a year round destination! This could only be a good thing for growers selling there. People are always hesitant when it comes to change, but if you READ this plan, I think you’ll see it could be a very exciting addition to the Triangle!!"
